What’s the Difference Between Van and Car Insurance?

What's the Difference Between Van and Car Insurance?

    Author: MarkeD

When it comes to auto insurance, many companies are starting to advertise separate policies for vans and cars. Surprisingly, van insurance differs quite significantly to car insurance despite the similarities in vehicles, and when searching for insurance it is important to be aware of the differences between the two.

There are typically three types of van insurance to choose from, ranging from third party, third party fire and theft, and fully comprehensive. Third party covers you if another party makes a claim against you after an accident and is the cheapest form of insurance. Subsequently, third party fire and theft covers the above, as well as if your van is damaged by fire or stolen. Fully comprehensive, expectedly, covers you for everything else also, including if you have a collision with a driver who has no insurance at all.

It is widely acknowledged that many vehicles can quite easily seem to be classified as either a van or a car, therefore to be sure that your van fits into the category of ‘van insurance' there are many things to consider. Firstly, a van is a true “van” if it carries less than four people including the driver. Also, according to its specification, a van must be designed to carry goods, and must also weigh under three and a half tonnes.

It is also common for most insurance companies to refuse van insurance to drivers who are under the age of 21, this is simply due to the higher risk of crashing attributed to younger drivers. Most companies do not include cover of tools and other accessories that may be stolen from a van. It is advised, therefore, that drivers take out an additional policy to cover any items that are frequently left in their vehicle.

When buying van or car insurance it is also important to be aware of the need to declare exactly how you are going to use it and for how long for. Usually, vans that are going to be driven full time will mean a higher insurance premium. Also, van insurers today are more and more likely to give you a better deal if you are prepared to install additional safety or security devices. Adding such accessories lessen the chance that you should need to make a claim, and thus should save you money and make the inconvenience less likely to happen in the first place.

London Property Review of the Year 2008

2008 was a roller coaster of a year for the UK's fortune market. Tim Jackson looks back on the ups and downs of London's housing sector over the past year…
2008 started slowly with the hangover for the manic relate market of ‘07. By the end of 2008, the UK was in the worst housing slump since the 1930s. There are three main factors that have contributed to this heady heading spiral.

    1 / Cyclical economic slowdown

After 15 years of non-stop growth, the UK brevity had overheated and house price inflation had far-outpaced rises in average earnings. The average home was costing 7 times middling earnings, which was unsustainable. A policy of low interest rates had led to the availability of cheap credit and properties had seemed affordable despite the ever-increasing prices. However, edgy of inflation running rampant, the Bank of England MPC gradually raised interest rates up to 5.75% in July 2007. This hit enthusiastically-leveraged borrowers hard, especially those on interest only mortgages and had the desired effect of substantially cooling the housing retail.

    2 / Worldwide banking crisis

When Northern Rock collapsed in the summer of 2007, it wasn’t a one-off at any rate but was linked to the fallout from the sub-prime market both here and in the United States. Banks worldwide had gambled by lending to un-creditworthy customers who were left-wing unable to afford their loans and therefore defaulted on them, often literally handing back their keys to the lender. As Northern Rock had grown its organization by taking on risky debt, it soon found itself unable to secure funding to operate and the government had no choice but to bail it out. The banks then all took note of this and as a matter of fact tightened their lending criteria. In a matter of weeks, the days of 100% mortgages were gone and loan to value ratios were cut dramatically.

    3 / Lending curb

This alone would be enough to cause a housing crash, but on top of this the banks stopped lending to each- other almost completely. This credit crunch attacked the entire economy from small businesses to the largest industrials and we are now seeing the rising unemployment and reduced spending that a shrinking concision causes.

The result of this unhappy alliance of bleak news is that buyers couldn’t borrow cabbage to fund their moves, vendors couldn’t afford to take lower offers on their homes as that often dragged them into negative objectivity and thousands of builders, estate agents and mortgage advisors went bust as business dried up.

The lettings furnish has been hit too as thousands of homeowners, unable to Sell House Quickly but needing to move have found themselves having to let their properties out, in effect becoming trust in landlords and massively increasing supply. The result of this is that cash for houses have been dragged down in the rental sector and many buy to let investors are conclusion that their rents no longer cover their costs and their investments are repossessed by the bank, further damaging the market.

Is there a way out of this danger?

The only route back to stability is for the banks to begin normal lending again both to each other and to home buyers. Without this the market is in for an even worse 2009. Only everything will tell.

Your Own Japanese Garden: Part 2

The addition of a Japanese garden to your front yard may enhance the salability of your home. An intriguing front yard of any type adds ambiance to a property. If a prospective buyer is drawn to your yard, perhaps he may be intrigued enough to view your home.
At this time of the year, the Japanese front yard stands out as one of the most eye-catching; it is because it does not need flowers to enhance it. Its charm is there regardless of plants; Japanese gardens follow Zen philosophies and are not difficult to reproduce in North America. They will lend themselves to any climate and any variation of plant.
Creating a Zen garden may even bring you some Zen contentment as a side effect! In “Your Own Japanese Garden: Part 1?, the concept of assembling your own garden was discussed with particular attention to its ambiance, focal points, rocks and lanterns.

In this section - “Your Own Japanese Garden: Part 2?, the plants, water, bridges, vessels and aging aspect are all explored. Plants in the winter can be fairly non-existent but your Japanese garden will still look good, because it has an intriguing design that does not rely on blooms.

Snowdrops and a Japanese flowering cherry may be your first blooms in the spring. If these are unavailable to buy in your climate, use a local tree, shrub or cactus.
For a tall backdrop near a fence there is a flowering Japanese daisy that does well in cool climates. It is most commonly seen in white or pink. If you really love your blooms, then spread them around as you wish!
Pansies lend themselves well to the Japanese garden and also honeysuckle (plant it near your seating area to enjoy the scent). Lilies and gladiolus also blend in with the look, and if you have a pond, add water lilies.
One of the plants that somehow looks Japanese is the begonia; they come in miniature or regular, and their colors are vivid. If you live in an area where not many flowers will bloom, try sticking to one color; consider buying every flower in white to keep to the simple idea.
If you buy evergreens, remember that you can choose from yellow, gray-green and blue-green as well as the traditional green. The red-leafed bush is also a colorful addition, and good ‘filler’. If you live in the desert, choose from the exotic collection of unique plants available to you there. Play more with the rock and ornamental pathway idea of laying out your garden.

Many people have put in their own pond; pond liners are inexpensive and instructions for the novice are easy to find on the Internet or in books.

A pond does not need a pump and can be small or large. However, some people prefer the use of a pump to allow the water to cascade over carefully placed rocks, etc.
A pond is a small area of Zen ‘nothingness’ where nothing else resides; water is also seen as the symbol for cleansing and purification. The sound of running water is said to soothe the soul, and have a de-stressing effect on the mind. However, if taking on a pond that complex is rather daunting (and stressful!) - there are other options.
Some of the self contained portable fountains where the water circulates within its own container can be found in bamboo styles. This would satisfy the need for the sound of running water; you may have to use an extension lead to operate it.

A truly Japanese focal point, and one that the Zen design ideally calls for, is a small bridge. This is to take you from one world to another; specifically from the troubled world in which we live into the soothing world of your Zen garden. Bridges can be ordered from the Internet, but you have to put them together yourself. Or maybe a local carpenter will create one for you?
If you buy a long shaped pond liner, you can place your bridge at one end of it and just plant tall bamboos or reeds on the far side of the bridge. This will suggest that your pond is bigger than it is and that the water runs under the bridge and past it.
To protect children and to keep your garden safe, install a stainless steel grid a few inches under the water level to ‘catch’ falling children.
Empty vessels and containers in stone, wood or terra cotta or another natural medium are appropriate in the Zen garden. The idea started with cracked teapots from Japanese tea ceremonies that the monks thought were too pretty to throw away. It has escalated into pots and empty vessels, and in some ways, the idea that the pot is old and was once useful ties in with the Japanese need for the reverence of age.

Venerability is highly regarded and in Zen gardens this need for maturity or dignity is represented by old, gnarled tree trunks, the patina on old stone, weathered wood or silvery gray driftwood. Old stone with moss nearby and growing over the top of the stone is a well known feature.
Maybe you can find your own moss by going for a country walk and lifting moss by sliding a knife underneath it. Keep it damp on the way home and try to cultivate it in your own garden. With one or more of these representations of aging, your garden is allowing the element of time to be revered.

Once you have created the true Zen garden, it will have ’shibui’: there is no real translation, but a restrained and simple elegance comes close to describing it. It should also help you to resonate with stillness as it will emanate ’seijaku’ - peace and calm.

    Google Faces New Challenges, Post-Armstrong

    google

    Google

The departure of Tim Armstrong for AOL presents new challenges for Google, The Wall Street Journal reports, especially as the search giant tries to win new business from big brand advertisers. Armstrong, the former SVP of advertising sales, had a reputation for building strong relationships with big clients, who now have the option of buying graphical and video ads across Google's properties and even on TV shows where Google acts as an advertising broker. Of course, these new businesses represent just a tiny fraction of Google's revenues, and some, like Group M Interaction CEO Rob Norman, think they will struggle to grow without Armstrong, who forged a great working relationship with the company's big clients.

In response to last week's announcement from Time Warner that Armstrong would join AOL as its new chairman and CEO, Google said it would turn to an existing Google exec to replace him. An announcement is expected in the next several weeks; according to insiders, Sukhinder Singh Cassidy, Google's president for Asia-Pacific and Latin America operations, heads that list.

Whoever the successor is will face the substantial task of trying to draw more business from large brand marketers at a time when their budgets are shrinking. Drawing more money from the largest advertisers is a continuing challenge for Google, which became the Web's largest company thanks to hundreds of thousands of small to midsize advertisers buying search engine advertising. Now that the company is expanding into areas that are less attractive to smaller advertisers, it must target larger marketers instead. The weak economic climate will make this a particularly difficult task for whoever assumes Armstrong's position.

    Drying and Preserving Valentine Roses

valentines day flowersDrying and Preserving Valentine Roses

Valentine Roses are a popular flower for giving at any time of the year but none more so than on Valentines Day for which the Red Rose has become an expression of love.

The Rose, in all it's shapes and sizes, is well worth the trouble of drying although the flowers do tend to shrivel a little and the color tends to turn darker especially with the true red roses.

To preserve your roses try one of the following methods.

    Air Drying Valentine Roses

The best results are obtained when all the petals of the bud can be seen.

Pick Valentine roses only on a dry day after any dew has evaporated.
Roses with firm buds that are just about to open are are best for air drying, To air dry hang the roses in a dark, dry, cool place with good ventilation. The buds will open
up over a few days the the whole process takes couple of weeks.

When dry a little hair lacquer sprayed on will protect the rose and make it last longer.

    Preserving Valentine Roses

This can be done using a desiccant such as silica gel. alum, sand or borax. Place your desiccant into a bowl making sure that the desiccant is entirely dry. Remove the stem of the rose and push a short length of florist wire through the centre of the the rose and replace the stem.

Push the wire stem into the bowl of desiccant and carefully spoon the desiccant over the rose. Seal the container and leave to dry out. Silica takes about 48 hours, but alum and borax take about 2 weeks and sand can take up to about 4 weeks.

Your desiccant can be used again by carefully drying out in an oven. When cooled it should be ready to use again.

Dried and preserved roses are also nice to use when making pot pourri as they nearly always retain their scent. Add extra scent with a drop or two of rose oil into the pot
pourri mix then displayed in open bowls of petals with similar colouring or in or use in sachets mixes for clothes drawers or the airing cupboard.

    Calcium is an important nutrient

Calcium is the one nutrient that comes to mind when most people think of preventing osteoporosis, a loss of bone mass that often increases with age and can lead to fractures. Calcium is an important nutrient for building bone and for slowing the pace of bone loss that comes with age. But it's not the single magic bullet for preventing osteoporosis, and some scientists suggest that too much calcium or dairy products may be unhealthy. Keep in mind that there are other nutrients and foods that help keep your bones strong — most importantly vitamin D, but also vitamin K, fluoride, and possibly fish.

The dietary reference intakes (DRI) for calcium is 1,000 mg a day for adults up to age 50 and 1,200 mg a day for people over 50, when bone loss accelerates. With age, the intestines absorb less calcium from the diet and the kidneys seem to be less efficient at conserving calcium. As a result, your body uses more of the calcium stored in your bones for a variety of important metabolic functions.

Scientific studies have yielded different results regarding how much calcium you really need for preventing age-related bone loss. For example, a report in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2003 found that calcium intake during youth pays dividends many decades later. In this study of 3,215 women, those women over age 50 who, as children, drank very little milk (less than one serving a week) were twice as likely to fracture a hip as women who had consumed more than one serving a day. But calcium intake during adulthood may not have the same benefit. Seven studies done in the United States and Europe that have followed thousands of people for many years have found no correlation between a high intake of calcium in adulthood and fewer bone fractures. For example, in the Nurses' Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study, people who drank two or more glasses of milk a day were no less likely to break a hip or forearm as people who drank one glass or less a week.

Men should be aware that some preliminary findings suggest that high calcium intake from milk may increase the risk of prostate cancer. For women, studies have suggested a possible link between calcium from milk and increased risk of ovarian cancer. In both cases, the risk came from milk specifically, so even if research confirms the danger, it's not clear whether the culprit is calcium or something else about milk.

Other foods and nutrients can help guard against osteoporosis. In building bone, calcium has an indispensable assistant: vitamin D. This vitamin helps the body absorb calcium, and some researchers think that increasing vitamin D can help prevent osteoporosis. But many people don't get enough vitamin D. A study of people admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston found that more than half had a deficiency. This problem is most common among people who live in northern regions of the country, because they don't spend much time in the sun. Exposure to sunlight prompts the skin to manufacture vitamin D. If you don't make enough vitamin D yourself, you can also get it from milk and other dairy products, fortified breakfast cereals, eggs, and vitamin supplements.

Other substances may help fight osteoporosis. The Nurses' Health Study found that women who got more than 109 mcg of vitamin K a day were 30 percent less likely to break a hip than women who got less. To get enough vitamin K, eat one or more servings daily of dark green lettuce, broccoli, spinach, brussels sprouts, or kale. Vitamin K helps regulate calcium and build bone. Additionally, some studies show that isoflavones in soy can slow bone loss and therefore might help prevent osteoporosis.

Fluoride is another substance that may play a role in building bone. Fluoride has been tested in many experiments over the last few decades with contradictory results. While some studies have shown that fluoride builds bone, several trials in the 1980s indicated that taking fluoride supplements did not reduce spinal fractures. But more recent research has shown that a newer slow-release version increases bone density and reduces spinal fractures. Fluoride therapy is used in several countries to treat osteoporosis, and the FDA is considering its use here. Whether the fluoride normally added to public drinking water reduces bone fractures remains a controversial question.

A word of caution: Don't take fluoride supplements on your own. Taking too much fluoride can actually be bad for your bones by making them brittle. The amounts of fluoride added to drinking water are safe.

Taking the jargon out of zoom teeth whitening and really the process of Zoom teeth whitening is really quite simple. The treatment happens in less than one hour saving time and money in the process. There are many great aspects to this matter, which we will review carefully so that you may get the most from it.

The severity of therapy will must depends on the severity of scratch or distortion in your orifice.

These days you cannot through a magazine or view a TV show with smiling people with sparkling teeth. The smiles are simply beautiful. As we get older, our teeth begin losing the whiteness of youth. It can occur from the use of medications, tobacco products and drinks, such as coffee, tea, curry, blackcurrant and even Fruits like Blackberries.

As the effects become more obvious, people begin to lose self-confidence in their smile and in their body image.
